Thank You Letter From the MLK Day 2011 Parade Organized by the Alliance of Nigerian Organizations in Georgia, USA
Friends,
On January 17th, 2011, ANOG joined DeKalb NAACP and in fact the rest of the world in paying homage to one of the “World’s Greatest Heroes,” at an MLK Parade and Rally. This is the first time that ANOG will collaborate with DeKalb NAACP in celebrating Martin Luther King’s legacy. Dr. King devoted his Life to Love, Peace, Non-violence, Civil Rights and Human Rights for All Mankind.
The purpose of ANOG participation in this parade/rally was to enable our Nigerian Community to reach out more to the larger community, step out of our silo and foster bi-organizational relations for mutual benefits. In attendance at the Parade/Rally were Georgia senator Steve Henson of the 41st district, as well as Congressman Hank Johnson of the 4th district of Georgia. They both look forward to attending future ANOG events. At the end of the parade, a well-attended rally took place. ANOG was duly recognized and in fact included on the program to make a speech. ANOG participation at this parade/rally was showed on 11 alive TV news earlier this evening. In a speech at the rally, ANOG praised the work of MLK and challenged all to strive for excellence, probity and strength of character, no longer blaming race as the limiting success ingredient.
Kudos to ALL who defied the cold, who came with their kids and who showed commendable community dedication to attend the event. The effervescence was electric. The patriotism was intense, and the determination to make the best of our Diaspora circumstances was not in question. Special recognition would be given to Sir Chima Njoku (Parade Coordinator) and Mazi Ndubueze Alaka (ANOG Vice President) who spent countless hours to organize this for ANOG.
By the way, we took a few pictures and you can see them here.
